  5. Ribosomal protein  S11  [1]  plays  an essential role in selecting the correct
  6. tRNA in  protein  biosynthesis.   It is located on the large lobe of the small
  7. ribosomal subunit. S11 belongs to a family of ribosomal proteins which, on the
  8. basis of sequence similarities, groups [2]:

  10.  - Eubacterial S11.
  11.  - Archaebacterial Halobacterium marismortui HmaS11 (HS19).
  12.  - Plant chloroplast S11.
  13.  - Marchantia polymorpha mitochondrial S11.
  14.  - Neurospora crassa S14 (crp-2).
  15.  - Yeast S14 (RP59 or CRY1).
  16.  - Mammalian, Drosophila, Trypanosoma, and plant S14.
  17.  
  18. We selected one of the best conserved regions in these proteins as a signature
  19. pattern.
